Richard Winfield, founder of Brefi Group, specialises in working with directors, boards and senior management teams as an executive coach and facilitator of corporate retreats.
He is an international strategy consultant, facilitator and scenario planner who provides transition coaching to directors, boards and partnerships and helps them develop strategy and build teams.
A strategic, analytical and innovative systems thinker, his focused questioning style rapidly identifies core personal and business issues in startling simplicity. He gives you space in which to find your own solutions and then supports you in introducing the changes.
Richard enjoys working with top individuals and management teams as a coach, facilitator and designer of integrated action-learning courses, setting measurable outcomes and validating performance against independent high performance competencies including those of the Institute of Directors and the Management Charter Initiative.

Richard’s interests include international travel, vegetable gardening, pond building, cycling, choral singing and reading.

Consultancy
Richard has a master’s degree in management and technology from the University of Wales and more than 20 years experience as a management consultant.
He was involved in more than 20 Investors in People projects when the scheme was first launched, including the first magistrates court service in the UK and the first local authority in Wales.
He has founded several publishing companies and prepared business plans for Internet and e-commerce businesses.
In total he has worked in more than 10 countries in North America, Africa, Europe, the Gulf and Asia.
Executive Coaching
Richard specialises in transition coaching for directors – both directors who still think as maanagers and managers who think they should be directors. He helps them review their identity, clarify their objectives and improve their communication.
He helps people by:
- helping them find answers to problems by asking the right questions
- encouraging them to take responsibility and not assume someone else will sort things out for them
- thinking outside the norm and seeing things from a different perspective – and helping others to do the same
- making complex issues seem straightforward and easy to understand/solve.
Facilitation
Richard specialises in scenario planning and corporate retreats. In particular, he enjoys helping organisations develop their vision, mission and values, and integrating them into their strategy and normal operations.
Richard has refined a simple but powerful scenario planning system developed in South Africa. Scenario planning can be effective in a two hour session or over a period of a year or more.
Training
Richard’s contribution to training is in the realm of management development. He has designed and co-delivered a series of five day residential ’Future Managers’ programmes in exciting locations on both sides of the Atlantic.
He has also delivered shorter team building programmes.
